Keeping your washable menstrual pads and panties clean is quicker and easier than you think! And while choosing “reusable” may seem like a small gesture, it’s actually a giant leap towards a greener, waste-free planet! waste-free and green planet.
This quick guide will teach you how to wash and dry your menstrual undies in a flash!
Rinse, wash, dry
It’s normal for your flow to vary during your period. On lighter days, you might only need a single reusable pad, and on heavier days, you might need to replace it once or twice. Used pads can either be carefully folded in two or rolled up, then placed inside the carrying kit’s fluid resistent compartment Each pair of Mme L’Ovary underwear comes with its own transport bag.
Once you’re back home, you can wash your period panties the same way you wash regular underwear, but with an additional prep step: rinsing! Follow these simple steps to properly clean your menstrual underwear, reusable sanitary pad,,and carrying bag:
Rinse the items under tap water, gently wringing them out to remove the blood.
You can also soak your underwear, pad, and carrying bag in a sink or bucket full of cold water for 15 minutes, then move them around and give them a gentle squeeze to remove the blood (avoid wringing them too aggressively; you might tear the fabric).
Dump out the old water and wash out any remaining blood until the new water runs clear. You may need to repeat the rinsing process 2 or 3 times depending on the heaviness of your flow that day.
When the water begins to run clear, you’ll know you’verinsed enough. You can then move on to the next step.
Pre-washing (Optional): Disolve a Mme L’Ovary laundry capsule in a sink or bucket full of warm water, and let your items soak for 10 minutes. Our biodegradable laundry capsules (wrapped in 100% compostable packaging) contain tea tree essential oils with antibacterial properties, which will give your undies and pads a thorough pre-wash.
Washing: It’s time to wash your menstrual underwear, reusable pads, and transport bag, either by hand or in the washing machine. Use warm water and a gentle detergent (preferably a biodegradable one).
The final step in caring for your Mme L’Ovary menstrual underwear is laying them flat to dry, either on a drying rack or clothesline. If needed, you can place them in the dryer for 10 minutes to remove any remaining moisture and soften up the fabric.
Dig a hole in the ground and pour pre-wash water at the foot of a tree, in your garden or in your houseplants (Well dig the hole and cover with soil once your offering is made).
